THE
CREDIT HOUR SYSTEM
The
procedure of Credit Hour Trimester System, practised in the
academic programs at IBAlS University involves 13 weeks of
classroom instruction in each trimester. Courses may have
different credit hours. For theoretical courses, one lecture
per week per trimester is equivalent to one credit. Credits
for laboratory courses are half of one class hour per week
per trimester. Credits are also assigned to dissertation, project
and thesis work.
Under
the present system, students have to complete the total number
of credit hours under a program for all subjects. But they
are not bound to complete the total credit hours within the
scheduled trimester, as there is some flexibility. The number
of credit hours a student wants to take in a trimester or
in different trimester will depend on the capability and choice
of the student following some rules and regulations of IBAIS
University regarding this.
THE
TRIMESTER SYSTEM AND TRIMESTER SCHEDULES
An
academic year comprises three trimesters, each trimester spanning
over 4 months: 13 weeks of instruction and 3 weeks for registration
and examination. Trimester starts at January (Spring Trimester)
May (Summer Trimester) and September (Fall Trimester).
Foundation Program:
The foundation program is compulsory for all IBAIS University
students. Our foundation program consists of the following
courses:
(i)
Basic Mathematics
(ii) Basic English
(iii) Computers Fundamentals
Completing
the Foundation program, our students can easily minimize their
deficiencies of English, Mathematics and computer science
throughout the program.
EARNED
CREDITS
The
course in which a student has obtained 'D-' or higher grade
is counted as credit earned by the student. 'F' grade is not
counted towards a student's earned credits. A student who
obtains an 'F' grade in any core course has to repeat the
course. If a student obtains an 'F' grade in an optional course,
he/she may choose to repeat the course or take a substitute
course if available. 'F' grade is not counted for GPA calculations
but will show on the Grade Sheet and Transcript. Students
can appear in the supplementary examination to improve their
grades. However, a student is permitted to appear in supplementary
examinations not more than twice for a course and his/her
credit is determined by averaging the marks obtained in the
supplementary and original examination.
