MBA in Healthcare Management (MHM)

 

Admission Requirements:

MBBS or minimum Bachelor Degree with 4 years experience in relevant fields

 

Degree Requirements:

  • Completion of (42-54) credit hours.
  • Passing all courses individually and maintaining a minimum CGPA of B (3.0)

Group B: MHM 750 Thesis (6 Credit Hours)

MHM candidates having a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at required and specialized courses may take supervised study and research culminating in a thesis in their fields of specialization. The completed thesis should be bind and printed in accordance with the regulations of IBAIS University.

BUS 509 Business & Marketing

Business: Meaning of business, Basic elements of business, Basic Features of business, its branches and their place in the economy of Bangladesh, Business environment, Business size, Location of Business, Efficiency of business enterprises, Social responsibility of business and its implications. Forms of Business ownership in Bangladesh, Relative position of each form of ownership, Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, Joint-Stock Company, Co-operatives and state Ownership, Formalities and distinguishing features of each form of ownership, Considerations in the choice of specific form of Ownership.

 

Marketing: Definition of marketing, scope of marketing, modern functions of marketing, core concepts of marketing, marketing system and goals, market, and marketing mix, marketing process, principles and problems involved in the transfer of goods and services from produces to the ultimate consumer. Market measurement, Market segmentation, Marketing environment.

 

 

STA 512 Statistical Decision Making

The course is designed to equip the student with statistical tools and concept to be used in the decision making process. The topics of the course include measure of central tendency, measure of dispersion, probability distribution and their application in the management decision process, testing hypothesis, regression, correlation and introduction to parametric statistics, survey methods, sample design and sources of business static sin Bangladesh.

 

MGT 515 Management and Organizational Behavior

The course introduces applied behavioral sciences to the study of people at work in organization. The course deals with individual and group behavior models in the context of different organizations and social system. It deals with the basic concept of motivation, perception learning and analysis of human behavior, individual difference and job satisfaction, attitude change, group process, team work, role theory, power and authority, along with the analysis of small group behavior, group dynamics, leadership, conflict and managing change, development of the organization and the influence of group.

 

BUS 516 Business Communication

The study “communication and organization” clarifies the process of sending a massage in such a way that the message received is a close in meaning as possible to the massage intended. The course will cover fundamentals of communication, non-verbal communication, guidelines of effective communication, letters and memo writing, oral presentation skills, report wring, cover letter and resume, interview skills, meeting and seminars, communication technology.

 

ACT 511 Financial Accounting

Financial accounting is concerned with recording, presentation of financial data generated by a business unit in a framework of convention accounting procedures. Will cover basic concepts in accounting, balance sheet & profit and loss account, double entry system and ledger account procedures, preparation of balance sheet and profit and loss account from the ledger, accounts of limited company, ratio and performance measurement, cash flow statement, valuation and performance measurement, control of accounting system, IT application.

 

HCM 601 Administrative Use of Epidemiology

The study of the distribution and determinants of health, diseases, and disability in human populations. Specific topics include principles and methods of epidemiology; the concepts of health and illness and their operational measures; epidemiological techniques used to identify health problems in a community; examination of lifestyle, the medical care system, and the social and physical environment as determinants of health; the multiple responsibilities of public health departments; the application of epidemiological principles to the study of health services use, program evaluation, and quality of care; and population-based approaches to determining health resource requirements.

 

HCM 613 Theories in Health Education & Health Behavior

This course provides the student with a board theoretical base for the analysis of healthy/unhealthy behaviors. Research and theoretical literature are reviewed in areas such as sociocultural and environment factors associated with health behaviors, communications, and behavior change strategies in health education.

 

HCM 614 Planning & Policy Issues of Health Sciences

This course serves as the basis for specialization knowledge in planning and policy issues for students interested in health care policy issues and options. Students are introduced to the historical development of health care and the policies that guide it on the national, state, and local levels. Special emphasis is given to the effect of planning and policy issues on service delivery.

 

POM 621 Production & Operations Management

The course involves students with the concepts of economics, basic health production decision, and operations of organizations producing health goods and health services. This covers identification and definition of major problem areas within these functions and development of appropriate concepts and decision processes for dealing with these problems. Main emphasis is given on forecasting quality control and inventory control, utilizing the operations research, industrial engineering and system approach.

 

ECO 622 Managerial Economics

The course-included nature and scope of managerial economics, basic economic relation of healthcare sector, demand analysis, production and cost analysis, market structure analysis and estimation long term investment decision-making. It designed to provide a solid foundation of economic understanding for use in managerial decision-making. Topics include, firm and Environment, objectives and scope of firms, risk and uncertainty, demand and elasticity, forecasting Demand, cost determination, competitive structure, business strategy, marketing, pricing and competition, cost of capital, investment policy, merger and privatization, MNE in the Last decade.

 

HCM 642 Medical Care Organization

The analysis of the current arrangements for the organization, financing, and delivery of medical care services. Specific topics include access to care; health care costs and cost containment; the value system of the health care industry; health policy and politics; the supply, demand, and distribution of health care facilities and human resources; competition and regulation; health insurance (both public and private); newer options for the delivery of health services, including the HMO and PPO; and health care services in an international perspective.

 

FIN 660 Advanced Financial Management

PREREQUISITE: ACT 511 FIN 519. Financial ratio analysis of healthcare sector, sources and use of funds, Analysis of operating and Financial Leverage, Management of current assets, Management of Working Capital, Cash and Securities, Accounts receivables, Inventory Management, Capital Budgeting and evaluation criteria, Cost of Capital, Short and Intermediate term Financing: Advantage and Disadvantages of Different Method, Long term Financing: Source of Long-term Funds, Advantage and Disadvantages, Dividend Policy and Retained earning.   

 

MKT 661 Advanced Marketing Management

PREREQUISITE: MKT 514. Marketing management course is design to present an integrated approach to healthcare marketing from a managerial point of view. Economic quantitative and behavioral concept are used in analyzing and developing a framework for decision making leading to formulation of an organizational goal and implementations of its marketing program. The course includes the identification of marketing structure, analysis of patient behavior, factor affecting the efficiency of marketing and the process planning marketing operations.

 

HCM 664 Analysis of Healthcare Markets

This course emphasizes the application of microeconomic models to health service issues and problems. Special emphasis is placed on current policy issues, such as consumer education and the cost of information, and to approaches that address problems or inadequacies in the health services delivery system. Additional emphasis is placed on market structure, industry configuration, and the consequences for quality, cost, and service delivery.

 

MGT 681 Strategic Management

This course deals with the company’s entire makeup and situation from both inside and outside. Topics include strategic management process, strategies accomplishing tasks, industry and competitive analysis, company situation analysis strategy and competitive advantage, matching strategy to the situation, creative diversification strategies, cooperate diversification strategies, techniques for analyzing diversified companies implementing strategy- organization building, budget and support system, implementing strategy- commitment, culture, leadership.

 

HCM 701 Healthcare Informatics for Managers

Health care informatics can be defined as the management and transformation of various health data components into information and knowledge that is used by health care managers to improve the process of health care. This course develops an understanding of the concepts relevant to Health Care Informatics and the present status of information technology in health care organizations. The main focus is the use of computer-based application to support clinical and administrative managers in health care today.

 

HCM 702 Healthcare Law

This course will focus basic concepts to health care law. Considers the roles and rights of the major forces in the heath care industry: patients, hospital administration, governing boards, health care practitioners, and state and federal governments. Topics include issues of government regulation, corporate organization and financing, medical staff privileges, death and dying, consent to treatment, legal aspects of nursing services, hospital liability, informed consent, collection and disclosure of patient information, legal considerations in financial management and health planning, labor law, and other special, complex issues of health care law.

 

HCM 703 Integrative Business Strategy for Healthcare Management

Presents the integrative and cross-functional nature of strategy and decision making in the health services industry. Principles, concepts and theories from strategic planning, marketing, finance, human resources management, accounting, and operations management are applied to administrative decisions and the formulation of strategic business plans for the heath services industry.

MIS 641 Management Information System

This study highlights the effective use of information systems in management builds on a vision – an idea, often not fully articulated, of where a company can go: perhaps new services or unique products it can offer, ways of serving customers better, or ways to help employees be more effective and more satisfied with their work. The course will deal with fundamentals staffs if information system, solving business problem with information systems, information systems- hardware and software, telecommunications, data base management systems, internet and e–commerce, information systems for business operations information, systems for managerial decision support, management information/ reporting systems, information system for strategic advantage, managing information technology: enterprise and global management, security and ethical changes of IT.

 

RES 650 Advanced Research Methodology

The Course is designed to demonstrate to the Participants the importance of a scientific approach business research and problem solving projects. It shows them how to formulate a problem, choose a research method, argue and motivate, and how to Collect analyses and present the data. Subject materials will included design of research, unit of analysis and basic design, translating business problems to research problems, specific research analysis, variable data source, an introduction to sampling, selected a sample design, measurement: general issues, questioner and interviews, relationship and group differences: bivariate analysis, conclusion and recommendation, methodology’s: introduction and available data sources; pilot projects; evaluation studies and field experiment, survey data analysis and reporting, data preparation , primary data analysis descriptive and univariate analysis.

 

FIN 659 Portfolio Management

Introduction to modern investment theory; Securities and markets; Combining individual stocks into portfolio; Finding efficient set; Index models; The Capital Asset Pricing Model; Factor Models and the APT; Performance Measurement, Performance Analysis, and Performance Attribution; Market inefficiencies or market anomalies; Equity Valuation and Strategies; Bond portfolio management – valuation and risk: pricing, measuring yield, bond price volatility, Duration, active & passive strategies, immunization and cash flow matching; Options and Futures: Black-Schole and Beyond, Portfolio Insurance, program trading & other recipes for disaster; Stock market in Bangladesh.

 

FIN 722 Investment Analysis & Control

PREREQUISITE:  FIN 660, ACT 511 & STA 512. The course is designed to provide a good understanding of the field of investments opportunities, making sound investment decision, and recognizing where investment problems and controversies arises and knowing how to deal with them. The contents will cover, risk and returns, operation of the marketing, modern portfolio theory, capital market theory, CAPM models and its extensions, equities, government and corporate debt, merger acquisition and buyouts, options, futures market, the stock market crisis in Bangladesh (1998).

 

FIN 725 Corporate Finance

PREREQUISITE: FIN 519, FIN 660. PREREQUISITE MKT 661, STA 512. The course designed to acquaint students with the principles, procedures, methods and techniques of marketing research. The course seeks to develop the ability to conduct market research and to evaluate and use market research reports.

 

MKT 723 Consumer Behavior

PREREQUISITE MKT 661. A study of motives, attitudes and decision processes of the industrial buyer and ultimate consumer. The sociological and psychological foundations of market place choice are analyzed including life style, social status, age, income, taste, habit, custom, fashion, self-concept, and opinion influence. Individual and group influences, brand loyalty and consumerism are studied.

 

MKT 725 Advertising & Promotion Management

PREREQUISITE MKT 661. Provides an apprehension of the principles and practices of advertising and key decisions necessary for sales promotion. Topics cover include social context of promotion, role of communication in marketing, behavioral concepts, values and functions of advertisement, product and market analysis for advertising ideas, advertising media, testing, advertising effectiveness, message design, economic and financial criteria and development of promotion program.

 

HRM 669 Leadership Management

The concepts and theories related to groups. Selected topics include a study of group process, interpersonal relationships, individual attitudes, the role and personality of leaders. Career problems and solutions, establishment of coordination among employees and personality development for leadership are emphasized.

HRM 680 Advanced Human Resource Management

Human resource management is the part of management dealing with people and its main purpose is to improve the productive contribution of people. This will include the topics human resource information system, human resource recruitment, developing human resources, rewarding human resources, managing human resources, and human resource in a changing world. Discussion other contents will cover hiring employees, developing employees, developing employees, compensation, performance appraisal, legal environment in human resource management.

 

HRM 724 Organization & Conflict Management

PREREQUISITE 515. The strategies and methods of managing conflict will be studies against social structures. Management of group and inter group processes will be covered from an organizational context. It will also explores the use of power and politics in the management processes and analyze the decision making process of different organizations.

 

HRM 725 Industrial Psychology

Jobs and their requirements: Principles of personnel testing, measurement of human abilities, personality and interest factors, performance evaluation, learning and training, measurement of attitudes and opinions, motivation and job satisfaction, finical incentives and job evaluation and human error

 

MGT 723 Entrepreneurship Management

PREREQUISITE  MGT 515, HRM 680, & FIN 660. This course will be a study of the process and skills involved in new business creation and its effective management. Essentials of planning a new business, choosing ownership form, sources of financing, evaluation of alternative business plans, analysis of business functions to get started are included. Characteristics and management of small business are also covered.

 

MGT 724 Project Management

The course will deal with principles of management; project costing, feasibility, evaluation, planning, and scheduling, and controlling PERT, CPM, resource scheduling, materials management, and psychology on administration. Course contents will also cover theory and practice of construction operations, equipment utilization and construction methods, construction safety, construction equipment and plan. Analysis of cost, optimizing techniques used in managing civil engineering project.
