of Arts in Tourism and Hotel Management
The
primary objective of the Bachelor programmeme in Tourism
& Hotel Management is to produce skilled manpower
and competent personnel well trained to meet the demand
of the Tourism sector. Since, Tourism is the profitable
sector both for Private and Government undertakings,
there is a high demand world-wide for professional education
in this sector. Responding to this demand, IBAIS University
has recently entered into a collaborative arrangement
with Bangkok University an institution known for its
rich academic standard for this kind of Professional
Education. Under this collaboration students will study
1st & 2nd year in IBAIS University. After completing
1st and 2nd year (65 credit hour courses) in IBAIS University,
students will be awarded an Associate Degree in Tourism
and Hotel Management by IBAIS University. And after
completing 3rd & 4th year (Rest 65 credit hour courses)
in Bangkok University, students can finally get the
Bachelor Degree from Bangkok University. Or else, students
who will not transfer their credits to Bangkok University
can finally get the Bachelor Degree from IBAIS University.
In order to maintain International standard, we directly
follow the curriculum of Bangkok University as well
as it is also designed to fulfill the demand and necessity
of our National interest.
The
programmeme focuses on hotel operational skills, management
practice in the tourism and hospitality industry. It
also offers a variety of exciting activities to enrich
students' educational experience including local and
overseas training. We have full-time lecturers and professionals
who are experts in various sectors of the tourism and
hospitality industry, to provide individual academic
and professional training advice.

Emphasis on applying critical inquiry skills to varied
and challenging reading materials. Included analysis,
synthesis, and evaluation written discourse.

This course is designed to help students develop their
writing, reading, and thinking skills. Emphasis is on
the writing process. Through inventing and elaborating
ideas, drafting, revising, and editing, students write
in a variety of contexts for a variety of purposes.
These purposes include description, narration, exposition,
and argumentation.

This course develops students' communicative competence
through effective integrated use of language skills
in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students
will learn how to give discussions, presentations, speeches,

A study of logical thinking, process of reasoning, the
structure of deductive and inductive arguments, syllogism,
enthymeme, basic symbolic logic, induction by enumeration,
and Mill's methods. This course also includes fallacy
and critical analysis of arguments found in daily life.
Theories of creative thinking are included. The development
techniques, factors and activities related to creative
thinking are focused upon.

This course serves as an introduction to the concepts
function of human resource management in organizations
especially in the hotel and tourism industry. It includes
organization and coordination of personnel practice
and methods: recruitment, training and development,
career planning, discipline, employment, working conditions,
performance evaluation, health and recreation, compensation
and termination. Hence, these interpersonal relationships,
small group, and organizations will provide the basis
for understanding the dynamics of effective organizational
behavior.

Introduction to travel and tourism services. Tour Operations.
Preparation of Tour Itinerary and costing. Guiding techniques.
Study of the various forms of tourism management, comprising
the target setting, planning the formulation policies
appropriate for the management of retailing in the business;
the entrepreneurship in tourism, methods of tour management;
ticketing; the reservation of boarding rooms at both
government and private organizations; the renting of
vehicles; passport and visa processing, and other services.

224 Geography of Tourism
This course analyzes countries; regions and cities attract
tourism in terms of physical, geographical and socio-political
characteristics of such tourist attractions in order
to develop diversity of travel and recreational opportunities
including Bangladesh Geography: Natural, Cultural, Heritage
and riverine products. The correlation between the geographical
condition and the tour management will be covered. Field
trips are optional for this course.

This course provides an overview of hotel operations,
emphasizing on-line Job skills, policies and types of
organization. Theoretical management concepts are also
covered and operational management issues are examined
in relation to the planning, product development, marketing
and promotion. Field trips are a part of this course.

This course is designed to give an overview of marketing
principles related to the hotel and tourism industry.
The focus will be on the application of marketing mixes,
product planning, salesmanship, hospitality, marketing,
sales aids and the use of various marketing strategies

A study of sustainable tourism is investigated, including
its meaning, background and evolution; effects and benefits
of sustainable tourism; management principles of sustainable
tourism and the roles of government and private sectors

A study of the consumer behavior and the demands and
behavior of tourists in terms of demographic (age, sex,

and the various kinds of transportation by water, land,
and air; a study of the principles of the transit system;

The information concerning both domestic and international
airline companies, including the arrangement of timetables
and air fares; a study of the rendering services, reservations,
the regulations of immigration and emigration, the customs

This course is intended to give students an introduction
to food and beverage operations from planning and purchasing
through production, nutrition and service. It includes
methods controlling food, beverage and labor costs in
food service establishments. Also, banquet and catering
service, table setting and types of serving will be
covered.

353 Front Office Operation and Housekeeping
A study of the structure of the Front Office operation
in room reservations, reception, registration, assignment
of guest rooms and other services and the relation between
the Front Office and the Housekeeping Office for preparation
of guest rooms, preparation and decoration of the hotel
and conference rooms as well as other related services.

A study of catering and restaurant management; the duties
and responsibilities of the manager and others responsible
for the catering services; policy formulations; supervision;
demand estimation; sales and marketing; quality control;
procurement and calculation of cost and expenditure;
and other topics related to controlling of food and
beverages.

411 Computer Reservation Systems
This course emphasizes acquiring operational proficiency
with major computer reservation systems (CRS). Using
CRS's live and training mode, the course topics addressed
include; creating passenger name records (PNRs), itinerary
pricing, fare quote queues, and flight information.
In addition, non-airline-oriented information including
car sales options, hotel index descriptions, hotel availability,
tour index and immigrations and customs guide will be
covered. This course is equally divided between lectures
and travel lab simulations.

421 Research in Hotel and Tourism
This course aims at providing the background of research
methods, data collection and analysis. The students
will have opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge
to the real situations of any selected organization
in the hotel and tourism industry.

465 Practicum Training
Students apply the studied theories to their practicum
training at hotels, tour and travel agencies or airline
companies, order to get the know-how fr1om real-life
situations.
Students are trained by domestic and/or overseas organizations
for a minimum of 400 hours or its equivalence including
a seminar on training evaluation. The study is under
the faculty's supervision and is evaluated by both faculty
and training organizations. (A grade of S or U is given.)

468 Seminar in Hotel and Tourism
This course surveys various issues and events in the
hotel and tourism industry. The emphasis is on discussion
of selected topics, current problems and trends in hospitality
and tourism. The skills-based seminars are designed
to integrate and reinforce learning through a variety
of media.

A survey of Western and Eastern arts and cultures is
investigated. The focus is on the Asian arts from ancient
period to present, featuring: drawings, sculptural arts,
architecture and fine arts.

301 English for Hotel and Tourism
A study of English and technical terms used in the hotel
business as well as in tourist services; technical terms
relating to art, culture, geography, history, dramatic
art, music and architecture; the practice of listening,
speaking, writing, and reading comprehension from articles
and books concerning hotel management and administration,
tourism and daily conversation. Students will also practice
working in simulated situations.

302 Law and Regulations of Hotel and Tourism
This course is an Introduction to laws, traveler's legal
rights and regulations applicable to ownership and operation
of tourism sectors. Registration of Travel Agencies,
Hotels and Restaurants in Bangladesh. National Tourism
Policy. Also, the legal aspects of international hospitality
and tourism business with special attention to the laws
of Thailand and other countries will be covered.

402 Tourism Planning and Development
A study of travel patterns and market forces and then
economic, environmental, social and political impacts.
The concepts approaches, processes and models involved
in planning and developing a tourist's destination.
An investigation of public policy and interrelationships
between community and tourism development. Role of National
Tourism Organization. Public-private partnership in
Tourism.

403 MICE Management
This course focuses on the roles and responsibilities
of professional hospitality meeting planners and hotel
convention sales/service managers for purposes of planning
or hosting a major convention, a corporate association,
or special group meeting event. A detailed review of
the factors necessary for successful convention and
meeting is conducted with emphasis on the various methods
employed to enhance both programme and attendance. Group
project will be assigned.

This course is designed to give the students an understanding
of resort development including planning and operation
of individual destination resorts. Analysis of resort
concept, history, master planning, environmental impact,
facility design, maintenance and operational management
will be covered.

Intensive spoken and written Bangla for beginners. The
students focus on the conversational skills sufficient
to communicate in everyday life's activities. Elements
of Bangla language are also taught in preparation of
comprehensive studies.

102 Bangla Language for Foreigners II
Prerequisite: ITH 101 or Dean's Approval
A study of proper use of Bangla language structure,
grammar, vocabulary, and idioms, including comprehensive
skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Bangla at a proficient level of communication. The students
also learn to understand the cultural contexts of the
language to be able to enter conversations and discussions
properly.

450 Dissertation/Project
All
BA candidates require to undertake supervised study
and research culminating in a dissertation/project in
their field of specialization. The completed dissertation/project
should be bind and printed in accordance with the regulations
of IBAIS University.
